Can any body please help me? I have been searching for drawings by Louis Wain during his so called schizo period while in the hospital, the wall-paper cats ect.
Floating around the net, that I can find are about 7 or eight samples of his crazy cats and I want to see more, much more, because apparently he made many. I even went as far as buying a book (65$) entitled "The Cats of Louis Wain" It was advertised as being collections of a nurse who worked at the hospital during Louis's stay. The book contained no such art, just Wains pre-crazy cats.
I even wrote to a museum in England that professed to have a large collection of Wains crazy cat art. They sent me a link that contained the same Wain Crazy cats that have been circulating for years.
So please, can any body help me find a large body of Wains cats that he would have drawn during his fifteen years in the hospital?????

thanks! just click on the gallery image on this tribe's main page, then at the bottom of the image listing is a simple upload form. there's also room for title/description which you can edit after posting (or i'll edit for ya)

do you have any of his work framed? any original prints from way back when?

my dad has a framed print of 'the fire of the mind agitates the atmosphere' - posted in this tribe's gallery ;)

thank you for the info on how to post pics to this group. per request, i just added 3 photos of Louis Wain's later works. i hope you guys enjoy them :)

oh how i wish i had some of Louis' original works! but unfortunately, his original pieces are way out of my budget. though of course one day i hope to own an original piece of his. the closest i have is a limited edition print of a piece called "The Sad Cat". my friend got it for me, the cat in the painting looks a lot like my own cat, Abbey. and i have 2 reprinted postcards of his as well.

that's so cool that your dad has a framed print of "the fire of the mind agitates the atmosphere" - that is a very powerful piece of his. that reminds me, i just learned recently that a few years back, there was a play about Louis Wain! i believe the play was called "The Fire of the Mind". it was at a small theatre group in Canada, and it got rave reviews. i would have loved to have seen that!

anway, nice to be part of this tribe! :) almost no one i know has even heard of Louis Wain, so it's nice to be amongst fellow fans of his.

        Cheers!

Just above the list of topics, click on the "photos" button. This will take you to the photos only area. Near the bottom of a page is a "post photo" button on the right, I think. Click that and it will havea standard looking upload page.

BTW, Your photo looks like you could be one of Wain's cats. :-)
